2019 LEQ Award results
Congratulations to all the winners and commended projects at the inaugural LEQ Awards, announced on the 11th December. It was great to see the level of support for this year’s Awards and we thank all our entrants for sharing your projects with us.
The aim of the Awards is to celebrate exceptional learning environments where innovative architecture meets and supports advanced educational philosophy. We appreciate the breadth and quality of projects in Queensland that meet these standards and it was fantastic to see projects from across the state, from the Gold Coast to Cairns.
The overall Award winner this year was Queensland University of Technology Peter Coaldrake Education Precinct Building by Wilson Architects + Henning Larsen in Association.
The jury appreciated “the clear and comprehensive [submission], reflective of the high quality architectural education planning and design execution... The design includes strong connections with the greater Campus environment and nearby Library setting, and is comprehensive and resolved in its surroundings. Strong consideration of student circulation and clear planning values have forged a memorable space on Campus. A variety of adaptive teaching spaces are well-considered to meet pedagogical needs and changing future educational trends. The external and internal material palette, composition and succinct detailing provides an exceptional, future focussed environment which suggests high expectations of its users and the program.”
